About Us

Born out of a nationwide drought in primary care physicians during the 1960s, nurse practitioners (NP) have been providing preventive and acute health care to individuals in the United States for over 40 years. Defined by their advanced training received in graduate school, licensed NPs enjoy a pronounced amount of medical independence similar to that of a physician. In many states, NPs have the authority to diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, prescribe medications, and provide referrals for their patients. The ever-increasing demand for primary health care providers means that NPs will experience some of the best job prospects and salary potentials in the health care industry over the next decade. Indeed, if you have a passion for the health sciences and an interest in preventive medicine and wellness, a career as a nurse practitioner may be for you!

NursePractitioner.org is a site created to give you all the information you need about the education, training, licensure, and career of today’s nurse practitioners. We want to hear from you! We’ve designed this site to be as comprehensive as possible in the information we provide, but we're always open to suggestions on what we may be missing. Please contact us if you have any feedback on ways we could improve our site.
